Connections Therapy

First Responders & Healthcare Workers

Your work asks a lot of you. Counselling can be a private place where you are not the one holding everything together.

Our registered social workers have worked in hospitals, corrections and community mental health, and we offer evening appointments around your shifts.

Private, and separate from your workplace

Many people in these jobs worry about who will find out. Your sessions are confidential and are not shared with your employer without your consent, except where the law requires it. We explain those legal limits at your first session, so there are no surprises.

You can use your own benefits to pay for sessions, and we direct bill many insurers. Check whether your workplace benefits or employee assistance program covers counselling. See our rates and benefits for the full list of insurers.

Experience in the systems you work in

Our social workers have over fifteen years of combined experience across community mental health, addiction treatment, homelessness prevention, corrections and healthcare. That includes work in a community hospital and in the provincial correctional system, so we understand how these workplaces run and what it is like to be part of them.

That background shapes our trauma work. Megan offers EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) alongside other trauma-focused approaches, for people carrying the weight of difficult calls, shifts and events.

Frequently asked questions

Will my employer find out I am in counselling?

Your sessions are confidential. We do not share information with your employer without your consent, except where the law requires it. We explain the legal limits at your first session.

Can I book around my shifts?

Yes. We offer appointments Monday to Friday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and weekend times by request. Sessions are by secure video, so you can meet from home.

I am the one who usually helps other people. Is it okay to need support?

Yes. Many people in caring and emergency roles find it hard to be on the other side of the conversation. You do not need to be in crisis to start. A free consultation is a low-pressure way to see whether it feels right.

Do you offer EMDR?

Yes. Megan offers EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), a structured therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming. It is not the right fit for everyone, so your counsellor will talk through whether it suits you before you start.

Will my benefits cover it?

Many private plans cover counselling with a registered social worker, and we direct bill many insurers. Check your plan or employee assistance program for your coverage. See our rates and benefits page for details.
